The effect of polymolecularity and branching on the dependence of the melt flow index
on the limiting viscosity number
Based on the results of studies on bisphenol-A polycarbonates an empirical relationship between the melt flow index and limiting viscosity number, polymolecularlty index and degree of branching of polymer has been presented and the coefficients of the regression equation calculated. This relationship can be used in the evaluation of the presence of branched macromolecules in the polymer. It has been found that the molten-state viscosity of polymer increases with an increase in the polymolecularity index and in the content of branchings.
