The effect of stearic acid on the process of crosslinking and on the reinforcement of natural rubber in the presence of fillers of various acitivity
The effect of the addition of stearic acid in the range of 0—8 parts on 100 parts by weight of natural rubber on the rate of cure, structure of network and mechanical properties of natural rubber containing 0—60 parts by weight of fillers differing in activity (carbon black, talc, silica) has been investigated. The observed influence of stearic acid depends on the type and amount of filler. It has been explained both by the effect of this acid on the rate and direction of elementary reactions in the curing process and by the modification of interactions between active filler and rubber.
