The effect of the design elements of screw and technological parameters on the plasticization
quality in the extrusion process
The studies aimed at the elucidation of the course of the extrusion of LDPE by means of an extruder with grooved feeding zone and with screws equipped with shearing and mixing elements. In the mathematical description of the extrusion process, statistical methods and the method of design of experiments have been used. The obtained regression equations served for the evaluation of the simultaneous effe ct of the essential design parameters of the screw as well as of the technological parameters of extrusion on the quality and intensity plasticization. Besides, a partial graphical optimization of the design factors of the screw under advantageously chosen conditions of tape extrusion has been carried out. It has been found that the mixing elements exert a bigger influence upon the thermal homogeneity of the molten material than the shearing elements.
