The effect of the ionization radiation on the structure and properties of ester-ether elastomers
The effect of irradiation with a stream of fast electrones (doses up to 1000 kGy) and of the kind of ester-ether elastomers of the Elitel type [differing in the content of rigid segments of poly(butylene terephthalate) and of soft segments of polyoxybutylene] on their structure and physical properties, tensile characteristics, and thermal properties has been investigated. In these investigations, the DSC- and TGM-methods as well as hot-set test (measurement of deformations at an elevated temperature) have been used. It has been found that irradiation results in th formation of a cross-linked structure and inhibits the thermal decomposition of polymer. The higher the content of soft segments in the elastomers under study, the easier is the formation of cross-linked structure under irradiation.
