Summary

The effect of the thermal polymerization on the kinetics of photopolymerization of methacrylic acid (KM) in aqueous medium in the presence of Na2S2Oe as photoinitiator and polyvinylpyrrolidone as matrix has been analyzed. It has been found that the effect of thermal polymerization on the calculations of the overall rate constant and of the kt/k 0 — ratio is negligible. The effect of thermal polymerization should however be considered when determining radical lifetime, r, by the rotating sector method.
