Air permeability of polystyrene films prepared by casting polymer solution on glass plates and evaporation of solvent has been determined. Films have been prepared from fractions of polystyrene of various molecular weight as well as from fraction mixtures exhibiting similar intrinsic viscosity but different polydispersity. It has been found that both molecular weight and polydispersity of molecular weight have a big influence on air permeability. The higher the molecular weight and the broader the molecular weight distribution, the higher is the air permeability of films.
