Ten polypiromellitimides, seventeen poly(ester imides) and six poly(amide imides) have been synthesized. Stability of 0.5% DMF solutions of these polyimides (Table 7), hardness by König pendulum (Table 10), adhesion to glass and ability to liquid crystal alignment by polyimide layers by the interference wedge method (Table 11) has been tested. The relationship between chemical structure of polyimides and their properties, especially the alignment depth parameter, is discussed.
