The role of interphases in the initiation and propagation of crazes in polymer blend
Processes of crazes initiation and propagation in blends of glassy polymer (e.g. polystyrene) with more compliant particles (e.g. containing polybutadiene dispersed in this glassy matrix) are described. The influence of the particles internal structure, size and content is discussed. The localized plastification of the matrix material occurring during propagation of crazes through the field containing inclusions of liquid polybutadiene is described.
