Toughening of acid anhydride cured epoxies (in English)

Summary

Modification of liquid epoxy resin with aliphatic polyols of different average molecular weights and identical average functionality is described for the systems cured with acid anhydrides. The composition has a lower viscosity as compared with the original epoxy resin, and a sufficient shelf-life. After curing with different anhydrides, the formulated systems have significantly improved mechanical properties, viz., mechanical strengths, fracture toughness, energy to break and impact resistance, and very good electrical properties. Only a slight decrease of Tg was observed as compared with the unmodified resin.
