Twin screw extrusion of PVC pipes: the effect on final PVC compounding

and properties of pipes. RAPID COMMUNICATION (in English)

Polimery 1995, No 9, 539

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1995.539

Summary

Final PVC-compounding in the twin screw extruder and the mechanical strength of PVC pipes have been studied in relation to PVC formulation, extruder screw design and extrusion conditions. The experimental studies have shown the final compounding to be often incomplete whereby the PVC blend remains inadequately homogenized. A comprehensive analysis of the test results obtained on a twin screw extruder leads to the conclusion that, apart from the dry blend formulation and extrusion conditions, the final compounding is significantly affected by the screw geometry. All the affecting parameters are strongly interdependent.
