Two-step moulding of containers from polyethylene terephthalate
The practical possibility of forming of supermolecular structure in poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) used for the manufacture of containers by the method of blow-moulding stretching was analyzed. The role of thermal processes and of mechanical orientation of macromolecules connected with these processes and resulting from stretching and blowing of parisons was pointed out. The fundamental technological steps of the manufacturing process of PET containers were discussed, the importance of the step of material predrying was stressed and practical range of the parameters of this operation given. The essential technological parameters and their interrelations in the operations of parison manufacture and moulding of containers were presented. A brief review of equipment used in one- and two-step methods of manufacture of blow-moulded containers from PET was given. The results of exploitation of manufacturing systems used in Poland were summarized.
