Use of 2-methylimidazole as a catalyst of the polyaddition reaction of polyesterdiols and tolylene diisocyanate in organic solvents

A comparative investigation of the effect of content of 2-methylimidazole and 1,4-diazabicyclo-2,2,2,-octane (DABCO) on the rate of reaction of polyaddition of tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) and polyesterdiols from adipic acid and ethylene glycol, 2,4-butylene glycol and 1,6-hexylene glycol in toluene solution has been carried out. The catalytic activity of both compounds is similar. It is assumed that 2-methylimidazole is partially deactivated due to its binding via carboxylic groups present in polyesterdiols. From among three polyesterdiols used, the highest reactivity in the reaction with TDI revealed polyesterdiol from ethylene glycol.
