Volatility of antioxidants

A method for the determination of the relative volatility of antioxidants based on their volatilization kineticsat elevated temperature has been described. By means of this method, the volatility of a series of commercial antiageing agents commonly used in the rubber industry has been tested and compared with that of several new Polish-made antioxidants. The relative volatility of antioxidants tested has been determined in relation to the AR Stabilizer (N-phenyl-2-naphthylamine) at 140 °C (413 K). It has been found that among the tested compounds, the lowest volatility revealed: Ipognox 66, Ipognox 245 and Atlen SF, All of the Polish make and Alterungsschutzmittel BKF of Bayer, FRG.
