Summary

General principles of friction wear decrease of polymers have been discussed. In practice, the decrease of wear is obtained by physical modification of polymer structure, modification of surface layer, filling with particle or fiber fillers, forming of self-reinforcing IPN structures (interpenetrating networks), and applications of polymer liquid crystal structures. Other methods, such as initiation of selective transfer effect or decrease of triboelectrification, have also been discussed. The influence of hardness and roughness of counterface on behaviour of friction areas, as well as the dependence of polymer wear on lubrication, have been characterized.
