World polyethylene capacity — analysing multiproduct capabilities - (in English)

Polimery 1984, No 10-11-12, 376

DOI: dx.doi.org/10.14314/polimery.1984.376

Summary

The clarification of the future supply/demand situation in the world polyethylene industry can involve plant by plant determination of their practical product range capabilities in that an increasing proportion of capacity has dual and even triple capability, i.e., it can produce various combinations of LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE. Since this is a very laborious procedure, a simplified method has been developed by SRI (Standford Research Institute) International. It involves basic assumptions about the over-all operating rates and results in a simple but quite accurate determination of future supply/demand balances. The development of this method and its application to the years 1987 and 1992 for the western industrialized countries was discussed.
