Description

The aim of the research is to examine the influence of palladium on electrochemical properties of PtRuPd ternary alloys in high corrosive enviroment of sulfuric acid (corresponding to fuel cell working conditions). Detailed characteristic of the stability of PtRuPd layers is performed by the Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance technique. The EQCM is a technique which combines classical electrochemical effects with the inverse piezoelectric phenomenon of Au / SiO2 / Au interface. EQCM oscillator allows to record frequency changes of "Au / SiO2 / Au + deposit" system during the electrochemical measurement and translate them into mass values via Sauerbrey's equation. In case of 10 MHz oscillating crystal standard resolution is 2 ng / cm2 which means that detection of deposition / removal of single atomic layers. EQCM measurements in terms of PtRuPd studies allow to determine:

  • PtRuPd electrodeposition efficiency on gold substrate
  • Weight loss and average ion charge of dissoluted individual during oxidation of PtRuPd alloy
  • Electrooxidation potential range, mechanism of generation and structure of surface oxides
  • Kinetics of copper monolayer underpotential deposition on PtRuPd surface
