Membrane Separation, Extraction and Sorption Processes

Current activity

Researches in the laboratory and pilot scale on:

  • the use of the unit separation processes like extraction, sorption and ion exchange in the newly designed and modernized technologies;
  • application of the membrane techniques in the processes of the utilization of industrial waste-water with maximal recycling of the recovered chemical compounds and water (particularly wastes which contain salts of the uni- and polyvalent metals);
  • application of the hybrid processes (that is the classical methods combined with the membrane methods) for synthesis, separation and purifying of chemical substances as well as aqueous or organic technological streams;
  • the usage of membrane techniques for the gas separation, including the release of CO2 from the exhaust fumes produced by the coal and natural gas power plants.


Laboratory methods and equipment

  • Determination of the membrane work parameters – laboratory sets:
    • SEPA ST – the surface of the flat membrane equals about 15 cm2,
    • SEPA SF – the surface of the flat membrane equals 155 cm2.
  • Performing the pilot works using membranes and membrane modules 2,5" x 40" and 4" x 40".
  • Researches on the pervaporation processes in the laboratory set (membrane surface 170 cm2) and in the pilot set ECO produced by Sulzer-Chemtech (modules with membrane 1,5 m2).
  • Liquid-liquid extraction in membrane extractor "Liquid-Cell” with membranes hollow-fibre (2,5" x 8" and 4" x 28"), produced by MEMBRANA.
  • Determination of the work parameters of sorbents and ion exchangers – laboratory and large laboratory sets.
  • Selection of type of sorbents and ion exchangers for definite technological processes.
